Earthquake Explorers

Earthquake Explorers

First, your students will use a World Map to learn about latitude and longitude. Then, they’ll study Earthquake Data to plot the major recent quakes and discover the Earth’s Fault Lines. Finally, they’ll study patterns in the data to see if they can predict when and where the next big quake might occur. Scientists would love to know when the next big quake will occur; can your students help crack the case?

Teacher Tip Your students probably won’t develop a method that will advance the science of earthquake prediction, but you never know! On the Earthquake Prediction Form, you can choose to have students identify your class and state so we can reach out to you if you might have the next superpredictor in your midst!
